Bicycle Recycle (Kushtova)
Description: In Kosovo in general, but especially in our community people are not aware of the significance and benefits of recycling, toward the environment, economy and health. We want to introduce recycling through reparation of the bikes that we are going to collect in several communities. We are also going to spread the idea to the people who will get them and those are the most vulnerable people in our communitiy. We think that that way of raising awareness and creativity can be done with recycling of the "trash" which is in our homes, city, schools and so on, and we hope that this project can serve as a pilot project for other projects to come.
Type of Work: The main goal of the workcamp is to introduce recycling from theory to practice. Approximately, around 20 bicycles that are unusable and in very bad condition, will be restored/tested and in fully working condition and then will be delivered to the people which cannot afford them. Furthermore, through this project we want to deliver the message of recycling and change the way of thinking, hopefully to impact their actions in the future.
Study Theme: Recycling, reusing and sustainable living. Do it yourself - DIY. Climate change and climate justice.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in a camp. Tents will be provided. Basic facilities will also be provided (toilets and solar showers). We will cook on fire and outdoor kitchen, moslty local and seasonal food.
Requirements: Sense of humor, willing and learning to work on bicycles reparation.
Approximate Location: Kushrova, a small village near Mitrovica in the north of Kosovo, is becoming an eco-friendly village and attracted by tourists as it provides activities such as swimming, hiking, camping, playing different outdoor sports/games, mountain biking and so on and hopefully to restore the good values that this community deserves.
