Home for homless: Padre Damián
Description: CARITAS-Salamanca runs a home/centre for homeless addult people where they offer not only temporary shelter but personalized approaches for achieving self-autonomy and wellbeing. They welcome volunteers to enhance the social life of the centre and give in return a further vision of the meaning of poverty and social exclusion in so called rich countries. Volunteers greatly value the opportunity to show their solidarity and better understanding of a complex problem which is usually invisible in our society.
Type of Work: The volunteers will share the daily life and activities in the Centre divided in three main chores: • Giving a hand in the kitchen and in the dining-room or laundry, renovation, painting, cleaning and manteinance. •Joining workshops, group dynamics, and outdoor visits. •Socializing with the guests. There won’t be free weekends as such because the camp is meant to be a very intense learning experience.
Though there will be free afternoons during the week. Salamanca is a very old and beautiful city, full of history, with a lot of places to discover. Surely you will enjoy your stay.
Study Theme: Reflexion on social exclusion and homelessness in Europe.
Accommodation: Volunteers will have their own room at the centre, shared bathroom, basic conditions.
Language: A medium level of spanish is essential in order to be able to comunicate with the residents of the house and enjoy the comunity life. A previous interview will be required to check on spanish knowledge and understanding.
Requirements: Medium level of spanish and more than 21 years Volunteers should attach an additional motivation letter along with their application.
