Heritage needs You(th): Conservation of Idanre Heritage
Description: Oke Idanre is a cultural heritage site on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage, it consists of a high plain with several spectacular valleys interspersed with inselbergs of about 3,000ft above sea level. The people of Idanre historically lived on these rocks until their emigration down the hill in 1923. Oke Idanre is reserves tangible and intangible heritage, cultural landscape within the setting. The workcamp will be held within the framework of World Heritage Volunteers 2017 campaign and the Partnership Actions and Tolls for Heritage project, the workcamp will involve volunteers, young people in the protection, preservation and valorization of the local culture and heritage, and to revel in the diversity of these.
Type of Work: Preserving Oke Idanre World Heritage site: the volunteers will assist in the construction of benches around the old primary school; local materials that will also reflect traditional fittings to the heritage site will be used for the construction; clearing and cleaning of the site
Promoting Heritage: Volunteer will support the local group to orchestrate awareness raising activities and facilitate actions in Idanre township that will engage young people and local community in learning issues about Heritage and Diversity. Workshops, meetings, Living library and socio-cultural events will be organized
Study Theme: Cultural Heritage and diversity
Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodatedin a basic and shared accommodation. We recommend bringing your sleeping bag. No running showers but sanitary facilities are available and water adequately provided. There is no WiFi however mobile telephone and internet connection is obtainable.
Language: English is widely spoken and understood, the local language is Yoruba
Requirements: Volunteers should come being: Interested in learning about different cultures; Flexibile to live in simple conditions; Motivated to learn and contribute towards the protection, preservation and valorisation of heritage; Enthusiastic to share about their culture and experiences.
