Minifarming and permaculture
Description: Färnebo folkhögskola has a profile in transition. The Academy facilitates both distance courses and a full time program. It has established a mini-farm complete with a 30 square meter greenhouse, a hen house for fresh eggs and various permaculture systems. Summer volunteers are needed to support the Transition Academy at Färnebo Folk High School. The course itself also works with issues around solar energy, the green economy, alternative transportation and participative democracy.
Type of Work: Participants in the camp will be involved in all areas of work but will focus on 3 main projects: Maintaining the mini-farm that has been established by watering, feeding chickens. Maintaining the worm farm, some harvesting and some weeding. Helping to construct a mobile chicken coop. Participate in a one day mini-conference focused on Developing Hands On Ecological Education. Other task could involve: Constructing a solar dehydrator, preparing the worm farm for colder weather, landscaping, lay a concrete floor for the bike kitchen that last year's camp helped to establish.
Study Theme: Transition, eco-economy, permaculture.
Accommodation: hs school has modernized an historic home that had been used as a boarding home. Therefore, there are ample bedrooms, a large dining room, and a comfortable living room complete with wifi, projector and screen. However, Swedish summer evenings are uncomparable and may compel you outdoors into the large backyard which is perfect for a variety of yard games. Or maybe further to swim in the lake.
