HIV/AIDS awareness through Sports and learning local culture in ZANZIBAR ISLANDS
Description: The international volunteers will work with the youth population of Zanzibar island, using sports as a tool in the fight against HIV/AIDS and cultural activities organized in the community, with the purpose of learning and sharing experiences.
Type of Work: Volunteers' tasks involve: • Training young people on various sports, especially football • HIV/AIDS awareness activities .
In local cultural learning activities include: • Weaving environmentally friendly mats and baskets. • Henna painting classes • Cooking classes, to learn about Zanzibarian traditional foods and also try new recipes from the countries of other volunteers. • Tie-dye and Batik painting • Swahili language classes Home visits/stays • Khanga dress workshops (about the various uses of khanga, the traditional coastal dress) • Visits to various public & cultural places (volunteers can donane to support sustainability this activities)
Study Theme: Cultural heritage for sustainable development and Building capacity of HIV/AIDS awarenes through Sports, #Free time: During the weekends, the volunteers will have the opportunity to visit various attractions in Zanzibar. This can be done through support from local voluneers in form of individually or we could also organize a group visit. Some possible activities are: Safari blue (swimming, snorkeling, seafood lunch, sports at sand banks), Beach & Nature trip (visiting Jozani Forest, Spice tour, swimming with dolphins) and Stone town tour.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in a local residential house in the community or volunteer house or host family.
Language: English is the official work camp language but the volunteers have the opportunity to learn Kiswahili that is the national language in Zanzibar - Tanzania and other African countries
Requirements: Volunteer profile: Patient, interested in culture and health issues; Interested in working with young people, woamn and children; Flexible and quick to adapt to a new living environment; Creative and able to work with limited resources.
