Camas Garden Week
Description: Camas is a residential outdoor centre secluded away down a mile and a half of track. We run off solar and wind energy, and live together as a community. We share common daily tasks such as washing up, cooking and cleaning, as well as daily reflections which can vary from silent ‘sit spot’ to a jump in the sea! We have an extensive vegetable garden which provides a lot of our food, as well as being a place of learning and discovery.
Type of Work: The work will be predominantly garden related, with a variety of jobs to include all skills and abilities. The garden gets put to rest over winter so jobs could include: bringing up seaweed from the shore to mulch the beds, weeding, building and maintenance, harvesting or digging drainage.
Study Theme: The reflections we share at the end of each day provide an excellent opportunity for the study part. We often run environmental sessions, reflections on peace and community, and often how we fit into all of this.
Accommodation: Basic dorm rooms and bothy style common room. The house is an old fishing station that has been renovated to suit our needs, but remains basic. As we are off grid access to hot water cannot be guaranteed, but when the sun is out we do have hot water.
Requirements: Volunteers will be required to have ability to understand English and good willing to get involved.
