Building/ Renovation Project
Description: Contribute to improving the well-being of community through building project for a soup kitchen building at Phokelo Secondary School, Polokwane
Type of Work: The work camp activities will be construction of wooded building and gardening activities at marked arable land and plant food plants such as tomatoes, onions, carrots etc. and be able to do such community gardens to disadvantaged members of the community such as orphans and old peoples’ homes.
The work will be conducted in groups which will be given proper training from qualified people what we will expect from volunteers. Equipment and tools will be provided but we encourage volunteers to bring their own working gloves and comfortable working shoes for the work camp.
Accommodation: Accommodation will be in school classrooms at the project site and venue still to be confirmed. Participants will be required to bring their own sleeping bags and mats. The accommodation has a no bathroom or shower and there is running water.
Volunteers will be asked to share classrooms with separete classrooms reserved for male participants and female participants.
Language: The community has multi-cultural people and English is mostly spoken with local languages such as Sotho, Zulu, and Tshwana to name a few.
Please note some members of the community are not fluent in English and we encourage asking for translation as this is a rural community.
Requirements: Sleeping bag, sun cream, mosquito spray/lotion, sandals, working gloves and closed shoes are advisable. Rain coat, light working clothes during working hours and warm clothes at night, as it may turn out to be chilly; Torch or flash light;
Notes: Weekends are meant to be for free tours that the group can organize by themselves. All our work camps are reserved for cultural nights when each volunteer can present her/his country and culture.
