Building a welcome Centre
Description: ASTOVOT, in order to be increasingly close to the deprived and disadvantaged population and given the social and economic situation in the daily life of the population, decided to provide a center for this young population which could have a better future if offered a good living. This camp site reinforces the actions already implemented in the construction of this center started last summer (July 2015). The aim of this project is to offer an environment that can encourage the blossoming of troubled young children.
Type of Work: Together with the local mason, the volunteers will render the building’s walls, prepare the plaster that will be used to render, cut the wood for the carpentry, put in place the windows, etc. Another group of volunteers will create a green area for the centre, prepare the soil (spreading the manure, watering…) and plant the plants, turf and flowers.
Accommodation: The accommodation will be close to the workcamp and will include a common room equipped with electricity. The preparation of the meals will be everybody’s task, as the volunteers will be sharing it.
Language: French is the official language in Togo, but in the southern part of the country the most spoken language is Éwé. French can be considered as the language relegated to a role essentially administrative. NB: The workcamp’s languages will be French and English.
Requirements: The ASTOVOT workcamps are open to everybody, no matter the volunteers’ nationality. The minimum required age is 18. No particular skill is required, being motivated about the activities and being able of maintaining a decent moral behaviour is enough.
Approximate Location: Kpalimé: Kpalime is a lovely city surrounded by hills, 120 Km from the capital Lomé in the south west of Togo. Known for its mild climate, its amazing landscapes and a large variety of tropical fruits, it is a moving city welcoming different peoples from all over the country and many tourists during summertime.
