We connect / Mir bréngen zesummen : Community garden
Description: Luxembourg has so far welcomed about 4.000 refugees and asylum seekers coming from different countries. Our association joined the huge wave of solidarity for asylum seekers and has introduced a project to facilitate their integration. A key part of our project is the community garden in the north of the city. The community garden is a part of the house for volunteers doing their European Voluntary Service in Luxembourg but its open to the whole neighborhood and to refugees who are interested in gardening and meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. We organize regular workshops, mostly focused on permaculture (sustainability, social design principles and urban gardening). We wish to create a peaceful gathering place for people from different backgrounds to meet up and exchange.
Type of Work: The core of the workcamp is a practical use of permaculture in the Beggen community garden! We will construct a tomato house, shelves for planting made from palettes for the polytunnel, we will build vegetable beds, plant fruit trees, seed the garden and perfect a rainwater harvesting system. We will also do some 'garden art' and make some items like totems, bird nests, bird feeders and mosaics from clay and recycled/upcycled materials. We will also build a pizza oven for our final celebration! But it's not only about the work of course! You will have an opportunity to visit the city of Luxembourg, discover other social projects involving refugees and learn about Luxembourgish traditions as you will spend the Easter weekend with us!
Study Theme: The workcamp focuses on sustainability, permaculture, urban gardening and multi-cultural social exchange.
Accommodation: Participants will be lodged in the scout house not far from the community garden. There are separated female/male dorms, sanitary facilities, fully equipped kitchen for common cooking. Please, bring your own sleeping-bag! If you don't have one, please contact us, we have some spare ones.
Language: The spoken language of the camp is English, some knowledge of French is an advantage.
