Eco-camp in Siberia
Description: The camp is organized by the Voluntary Center “UNIVOL” based on Tomsk State University. The voluntary activity is a strong tradition among the students of the University. Tomsk is pretty small and cozy city that is considered to be one of the most popular and oldest cities in Western Siberia. Today it is a popular educational, research and innovative center. Tomsk also is a city of springs. There are approximately 1014 springs in the city, but unfortunately, native people underestimate their value. Except one enthusiast who has been preserving the springs by himself for the last 50 years. 2017 is also a year of Ecology in Russia. That’s why this work camp and presence of international volunteers is important for dragging attention to the environment and ecological problems of our city.
Type of Work: The main task for us is to make the territory of the University Lake pleasant and beautiful so Tomsk citizens and students would like to spend time there, walking and appreciating the view. During the camp volunteers will help with cleaning and maintaining the springs system and the Lake territory. Volunteers will also help with painting and setting tables and benches. The important part of the work camp will consist of filming video diaries and tell stories about volunteers’ experience on the work camp to promote the importance of voluntary work, springs and environment in general.
Volunteers also can prepare some educational activities about voluntary work for the volunteer of our Center “UNIVOL” (games, workshops, movie discussions, sharing your personal volunteering experience)
Study Theme: Volunteers will have a chance to know more about spring system and their environmental value. They will also learn about volunteer activities in Russia and in Tomsk State University and will know more about techniques and approaches of working with the youth. The work camp is also a great opportunity to practice English and learn some Russian language too!
Accommodation: Volunteers will live at student’s hostel that located at the University’s campus. Showers are available. 2-3 people per room. No sleeping bags required. Cooking-food will be served 3 times a day in University canteen. It is also possible to cook at the hostel’s kitchen. Volunteers will be provided with necessary kitchen equipment.
Requirements: Motivation to work on environmental project is the most important thing. Participants should be also ready to work in international team, to promote their culture, to share their personal volunteering experience and to promote the idea of voluntary work importance.
Approximate Location: Tomsk. You can easily get there from Moscow International Airport or get unforgettable experience in taking Trans-Siberian railway. Tomsk is a relatively big city full of students and opportunities for spending free time.
Notes: It’s easy and not expensive to go to Krasnoyarsk (to see very famous Lena pillars), and the Baikal lake after the camp.
