Program Assistance for Adults with Disabilities- Stanton Home (Massachusetts)
Description: Stanton Home is a community of 5 residences and a day program for 13 developmentally disabled adults. The hub of the Stanton Home program is a large renovated farmhouse which includes administrative offices and the day program site. About 30 employees and 15 volunteers collaborate with the program participants at sustaining a vibrant, thriving community. One important Stanton Home philosophy is that the most important thing in life is relationships. Everything else is how we give substance, value, and meaning to those relationships.
Type of Work: Assisting with the needs of others and helping around the house. This may include giving individuals a ride to therapy or work, assisting with personal care & hygiene, accompanying individuals on a hike, making a phone call, growing fresh greens, weaving a blanket or attending a concert. Our social awareness extends beyond the organization to the community, so we are active in recycling, hospice work, community clean ups, etc. Working around the house includes opportunities to take leadership roles in doing repairs, cleaning, gardening, cooking, building, maintaining a compost bin and working administratively. The work is very flexible and the aim is to utilize individual strengths and interests to support the community so that the whole group can thrive.
