ALISTE: Restoration of Cultural Heritage
Description: Rabanales de Aliste is a small town located in the province of Zamora. As many other in the region of Castilla, is struggling against unstoppable depopulation and general decay of rural culture, plus aging of its population. The whole neighbourhood is committed to search alternatives for their common future. Preservation of cultural is a very important role in all their planning. The presence of international volunteers brings life and joy to the everyday life of the people of the village. The townspeople are very participatory and open.
Type of Work: 1- Rehabilitation and adaptation of springs, paths and signposting of routes, by cleaning and making up new traditional structures, traditional bridgesand fences made by stone. 2- Supplementation of a hiking route, around the beautiful mills, by placing signs and posters to indicate the same route. 3- Restoration and cleaning of natural and medicine spring, as well as the renovation of the small town, by making up new traditional buildings, useful for the spring route. 4- Restoration and the embellishment of the urban center, by helping the traditional arquitecture. 5- Cultural activities and English classes with the people of the town and in particular with kids and adults.
Study Theme: Rural-development and cultural heritage rescue as an alternative to depopulation.
Accommodation: Volunteers will have two options for their accomodations: they can be accommodated in several community houses with shared bedrooms, or they can use their sleeping bags in empty houses.
Language: Spanish and English. A medium level of spanish is advisable.
