Historic Douro-Varosa Trail
Description: INOVTERRA is working in Douro-Varosa Route that pass through Douro and Varosa Valley by walk. The recuperation and requalification (interior) of the Chapel of Santo André, one of the historical buildings of the route, has been carried out by volunteers throughout this year, with the main objective of safeguarding, promoting and divulging the historical heritage with its inclusion and use in the Douro-Varosa Route.
Type of Work: The camp "Historic Douro-Varosa Trail" intends to continue the process of restoration and re-qualification (exterior) of the Chapel through the painting of the building and cleaning of the surrounding space to create support structures, rest and leisure, do the maintenance and cleaning of Cistercian monuments where the Route passes and cleaning, marking and placement of informative signs along the Route. We pretend to provide a different experience to young people as it gives them the oportunity to know new sources of development, a new culture and a practical work while getting to know the history of Portugal and its interior. With recreational and cultural exchanges with local habitants will be provide intercultural learning, foster cultural enrichment through visits in the region.
Accommodation: Basic housing with electricity, hot water, shower, WC, kitchen and bedroom (equipped with bunk beds). Lodgment can be in the bedroom or in a specific place around the building. Meals will be prepared by all the volunteers, taking turns. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and night snacks will be provided.
Requirements: All participants must be from 18 to 30 years old. Volunteers have to participate in activities concerning the functioning of the Camp, meet schedules, follow the guidance of tutors, assist in cleaning of spaces used, participate in the planned activities, meet colleagues, meet the overnight hours, participate in leisure activities, and respect silence during the resting times.
Approximate Location: The camp will be located approximately 5km of Lamego and near Douro region. Várzea de Abrunhais beside Vila Pouca de Salzedas and next to Varosa river is well known as a rural village of great natural beauty.
