Preserving nature in Santa Coloma de Queralt
Description: 'Santa Coloma in Transition' is an ecological initiative which works to promote and develop sustainable living as part of the "transitions towns" movement. The core values of the project are cooperation, sustainability, self-sufficiency, ecology and responsibility. The workcamp will focus on cleaning around the Gaià river.
Type of Work: Volunteer tasks include cleaning and clearing the area and path around Gaià river in Santa Coloma de Queralt, which has historical meaning for the village.
Study Theme: Sustainability on a local level, nature preservation and knowledge of the social and historical setting. During the afternoons, several cultural and educational activities will be organized so volunteers can understand and feel integrated in the territory and with its residents.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in a community centre, with access to a kitchen, bathrooms and showers. Please bring your own sleeping bag and comfortable working clothes. Volunteers will be provided food, and will organize cooking amongst themselves.
Language: Spanish are Catalan recommended but not required
Requirements: A basic level of physical fitness is recommended as the camp involves heavy manual labour. Enthusiasm for conservation and the outdoors preferable
Approximate Location: Santa Coloma de Queralt, west of Barcelona
Notes: Yes, it is close to Barcelona, but please don't apply if it only makes you think about sangria and discoballs! Volunteering is a serious commitment and it needs to be taken as such.
