System change, not climate change (Coburg)
Description: In the study & work camp „planting transition – system change not climate change“, the participants will mainly deal with the subject of ecological and social sustainability. The goal is to recognise the problems of the ecologically damaging and exploiting life styles resulting from our economic system, and focus on alternatives. The project is actively involved in the inclusive community garden “Unser bunter Garten” (“our colourful garden”), the Transition-Town-Initiative Coburg and also “dialog”, a counselling centre that does a lot of community work. The camp will consist of a large study part (2-3 hours a day) where you will have workshops and visit projects, as well as a practical part where you will work in the community garden (2-3 hours a day).
Type of Work: Building a fence, completing building a hut, garden work.
Study Theme: Recognising the current ecological and economic problems, analysing subjects such as nutrition, mobility, energy & economy: recognising and discovering possible courses of action concerning social and ecological sustainability, especially in cities.
Accommodation: Basic accommodation in the office rooms of “dialog” in the city centre of Coburg; bring a sleeping bag. You will cook together (vegetarian/vegan, regional, seasonal, for ecological reasons), there are several toilets and one shower, the garden is within 25 minutes walking distance, you can use local public transport or a bike.
Requirements: Interest in the area of ecological and social sustainability, willingness to work physically and deal with basic accommodation. Preference in selection will be given to participants from the Balkan region.
Approximate Location: Coburg is a small town (42.000 residents) in Upper Franconia (Bavaria), between Nürnberg, Würzburg and Erfurt. It has a small but nice culture and bar scene, a nice, medieval old town and lovely parks and is surrounded by a beautiful landscape. You can also take trips in the surrounding areas during your stay.
Notes: Bring along work clothes and a sleeping bag; the camp wants to contribute to a more ecologically and socially sustainable and fair world, therefore: please reconsider your choice of transportation for the journey there and back. Air travels have a negative impact on the environment and global peace; therefore we ask you to refrain from using inner-European flights and also inform yourself on the possibilities of carbon offsets. The participants will receive tips on an ecological journey.
