Lake, hills and environment (Sipplingen)
Description: This camp in the small village of Sipplingen (near Überlingen) on the shore of Lake Constance is organised in cooperation with the regional office for nature and landscape protection. The landscape around Sipplingen is characterised by steep banks and the territory around Lake Constance is a nature protection zone. This area is the habitat of rare and endangered species; therefore it must be cultivated regularly in order to avoid overgrowth by bushes and trees. That way, flower loving Insects will still find a wide range of these essential field flowers. During your work you will have a nice view across the Lake Constance.
Type of Work: Working under the supervision of experts in a slope area: clearing the area by cutting bushes and removing dried wood and branches in a slope area, building a path.
Study Theme: Biotope and species protection, development of the cultural landscape, explanation of flora and fauna; visit of Goldbacher Stollen, an underground plant of the Nazi era.
Accommodation: In solid tents directly at Lake Constance, modern sanitary facilities inside a building; possibility to swim in the lake.
Requirements: Interest in ecological themes, being prepared for physical work outside on a steep slope, good physical condition and step security necessary!
Approximate Location: Sipplingen is located at the northwest part of Lake Constance, 35 km northwest of the city of Constance and next to Überlingen.
Notes: Several trips to the sights around Lake Constance are possible: the islands of Mainau and Reichenau with its monastery complex, Constance with its historic city, a boat excursion in the evening, and a sailing trip with a barbecue afterwards.
You will work in a slope position; therefore you have to be properly equipped for it. Sturdy shoes required! You can find further information here.
