Save our nature – save our planet! (Middelburg)
Description: The thatched croft of the Teich family, that is also the camp’s base, is located in a small village in the heart of a natural reserve and is surrounded by the lake “Middelburger See”. Currently, the house is being renovated. When it’s finished, the house will be occupied and used for various cultural purposes. Several kinds of old fruit trees were planted on the meadows belonging to the house. The meadows also provide hay for the three farm horses. In the garden, fruits, vegetables and herbs are being cultivated. The small town Middelburg is located between the Baltic Sea (6 km) and the historic castle town Eutin (6 km). Both can be easily reached by bus.
Type of Work: Different kinds of landscape conservation work: • taking care of biodiverse grassland by digging out common ragwort (this plant has spread during the last years and replaced other plants) • trimming the marginal area of the meadows (cutting trees and bushes) • harvesting hay with horses and tractors (depending on the weather) • repairing and building wooden fences • building a fodder rack for horses.
