Description: Äijälä Family Home is situated near Jyväskylä in Central Finland. It has a charming old farmhouse which has been renovated to be a home for disabled people. The community wants to encourage the integration of disabled and so-called healthy people. Äijälä has been hosting KVT workcamps since 1980. The community works with organic gardening as well.
Type of Work: Organic gardening, planting trees and plants, cutting grass, harvesting, chopping firewood and cleaning up the forest. The volunteers will also work in the kitchen and do some house chores. All work will be done together with disabled people.
Study Theme: Life as a disabled in Finland and organic farming. Learning about the history of the workcamp and that of KVT, the Finnish Branch of SCI, that is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.
Accommodation: In shared rooms in a 200-year-old wooden farmhouse, the main building of the farm. People with disabilities are most welcome.
