Children's Development through Cultural Exchange
Description: Some studies have proved that, students spend more time in School than home. The physical environment of school buildings and school grounds is therefore looks like a key factor in the overall health and safety for students, staff, and visitors. School buildings and grounds must be designed and maintained to be free of health and safety hazards, and to promote learning. Performance of Children in studies and other general development will depend a lot on factors like sanitation, safe water supply, healthy air quality and safe playgrounds, among other issues that relate to the physical environment of schools. This project is therefore aiming to contribute to these issues.
Type of Work: Participants will be involved in the following outlined activities: - Renovation and painting of the school classrooms, drawing symbols that simplify reading and learning and installation of garbage bins to training on how to use them. Other activities will include organizing extra-curricular activities for students/Children, working with women group (Parents) on home management, entrepreneurship activities, arts and crafts etc. The project will have series of drumming, dancing and singing classes, Kiswahili Language classes and home visits. Be flexible since more activities might be added based on the weather and number of volunteers enrolled in the project.
Study Theme: Participants of this project will have an opportunity to experience life with locals in community. Various discussions and educational visits will be organized involving participants of the project, community members and visited places. The major topic will be Children’s’ development through Cultural exchange. Please bring information from your home community for sharing.
Accommodation: Participants will be accommodated in the communal house located in the community.. Clean water and electricity will be available. Pay attention on the information sheet for things to bring with you. Volunteers will be sharing rooms and mattresses will be on the floor.
Language: The official language of this project is English and Kiswahili. You do not have to be fluent.
Requirements: No special or particular expertise/skills required; however a potential Participant for this project should be flexible, open minded, interested in Nature, outdoor activities and hand-on activities.
Approximate Location: Dimani is a community along Indian Ocean with Mangrove beach. Community members are fishermen and farmers. It is very famous for production of variety of fruits and vegetable for local market in Zanzibar. The community is located about 7 Miles from the Centre of Zanzibar stone town. It is accessible by both private and public transport.
Notes: *Food will be provided for free at the project site. Participants with special dietary requirements should inform us in advance. Participants are expected to help in preparation of the meals. Note: Food will not be provided outside designated project area.
- The project is organized in a way that provides an opportunity for participants to utilize their free time by enjoying what the region offers in terms of cultural and natural attractions. The first week-end Participants will have an opportunity to explore Zanzibar historical, natural and cultural sites. These include museums, local markets, stone town, etc. The second week-end we will have an opportunity to enjoy wildlife and marine life. Jozani forest National Park, Blue safaris swimming, tour to small islanda and much more.
