Peace and Climate Change
Description: It has experienced that, every chapter of history comes with its own challenges. At the end of long time of peace building around the world through various movements, another threat peace has emerged. It is a fact that, today climate change presents a growing threat to peace, nonviolence and human rights. The climate is changing rapidly around the planet and this change is without questions caused by humans. In Tanzania as other countries around the world the impact of climate change on peace is visible. In Partnership with Dodoma Authorities this project is organized to raise awareness on climate change and its impact on peace, harmony and sustainable development.
Type of Work: Participants will be involved in series of activities leading to exploration, understanding, challenge and act on issue related to climate change and peace. These will Workshops and debates, Peace Tree planting and environmental cleaning, Working with special groups in the community (Women, Youth and elderly), theatre performance, and sports bonanza with tournaments.
Study Theme: Participants of this project will have an opportunity to experience life with local communities Tanzania. Various Discussions and educational visits will be organized involving participants of the project, community members and visited places. The major topic will be Peace and Climate change. Please bring information from your home community for sharing.
Accommodation: Participants will be accommodated at the student’s hostel and tents. Clean water and electricity will be available.
Language: The official languages of this project are English and Kiswahili. You do not have to be fluent.
Requirements: No special or particular expertise/skills required; however a potential Participant for this project should be the one who is social, open minded and independent, interested in cultures, Peace building activities, travelling, flexible, interested in manual/ outdoor activities and able to work under less supervision.
Approximate Location: The project will be hosted in Dodoma. Dodoma mean sunk in gogo language the indigenous people of the region. It is officially the national capital of Tanzania with the population of approximately 410,956. The town is 453km west of the former capital at Dar es Salaam and 441km south of Arusha City.
Notes: Note: For now, Tanzanian authorities require volunteers to get a business visa.
