Description: About hosting organization: This workcamp is organized by SCI India and Sawant Foundation
About Sawant Foundation – It’s a family trust created for the development and welfare of the villagers in Sindhudurg District since Year 2002. We have conducted three workcamps previously with SCI and got huge success. Sawant Foundation has best facilities of staying with modern amenities and facilities and can accommodate 25 to 30 people in the house with Tween Sharing accommodation. The Village has 5 schools and one secondary schools in periphery of 3 km area. The Schools are upto 6th Standard with a age group from 5 to 12 years and there are approx 200 students in each area. Volunteers will be engaged in activity with different schools during the camp.
Type of Work: • The volunteers will engage in Teaching local children
• Interacting with villagers and understanding the local issues
• At summer camp, it’s a rainy season so understand the methods of farming in villages
• During winter camp the villages would be busy with harvesting season and many other cultural activities taking place volunteers can participate in those activities
• Cleaning the area and interacting with children and local community and participating in meal preparation.
• Meditation sessions and mindfulness activities will be scheduled at different times on each day.
- Painting of wall, teaching students, Work of pavement to construct a path , work with children, Activities with local people.
Study Theme: Self-awareness, meditation, living yoga, poor society living, cultural appreciation, rural farming, Learning the social and living conditions of the community. Discussions on climate change and poverty elevation programs. Women condition and health issues.
Accommodation: The accommodation will be in the house of the family itself with separated space for male and female will be provided during the workcamp. You will be provided with basic sleeping material. Sleeping is on the floor. Pls. bring your own sleeping bag, pillowcase, and mosquito net. and also on location at the campsite, which can accommodate about 25 persons.
Requirements: Sleeping bag, hat, working gloves, clothes to work, / walking shoes, sun cream, towel, insect repellant, Camera, Music & instruments, Card games, sports equipment, toiletries (soap toothpaste etc), and medication if any. Things that is useful to engage local children (paints, pencils, colors, story booksetc.) and information about your country (pictures/books).

Notes: All food is with flavorsome Indian spices added like chili powder, pepper, turmeric, cumin, coriander, mustard seeds etc. as the basic ingredients.The food will be adjustable according to the requirement and taste of the group. Mostly vegetarian food however only Chicken meat and eggs will be made available on certain days.
Most probably the breakfast will be arranged by local villagers at their home, that will be an opportunity to interact with them.Volunteers will support the local cooks to cook the food in teams the supplies will be provided by the hosting organization. We believe that food is very important part of knowing a new culture.
