Migration studycamp: Entre[Terres]
Description: Even the last three years forced migrations have been a relevant topic in political and social debates the situation nowadays is not better. The borders of the fortress Europe are being reinforced, Human Rights violations are usual and most of the european governments are not taking the responsabilities that they must take.
One the other hand, a lot of people, associations and social movements have been working to report and denounce the situation of migrants and refugees, to demand the Goverments to act, and to create alternatives to host policies.
The aim of this camp is to study, debate and exchange knowledge about this issues. Also the participants will get to know different projects working in Catalunya.
Type of Work: SCI Catalunya made an educational guide about migrations in the Mediterranean, called Entre[Terres]. The purpose of this material is to provide educational institutions, schools and institutes with tools to address the issue of refugees with young people and children, from a perspective of peace and peace building.
Even this is a study camp, participants will adapt the activities in the guide in order to create a toolkit in english useful for other partners or branches of SCI.
Almost all the time will be training, so it will be very intense.
Study Theme: According to the general topic of the camp, the study theme will include various aspects of migration issues. During the days of the camp the participants will learn and discuss about migrations in a gender perspective, migrations in the Mediterranean, the South border of Spain, migration policies, inequalities, privileges and responsabilites.
This will be fulfilled through workshops, debates, etc.
Accommodation: Although it is not defined yet, volunteers will stay on a community space with access to a kitchen, toilets and showers. It is mandatory to bring your own sleeping bag!
Volunteers and coordinators will buy the food and cook together.
Language: Catalan will be the language used between local people, but the official workcamp language is English.
Requirements: For this workcamp, it is mandatory to have a genuine interest on migration issues and willingness to work on it in a self-reflective and critcal way.
Approximate Location: Barcelona - Yes, it is an amazing city, but please only apply if you are eager to learn and do more on migration issues and you are commited to being part of this team work the entire time.
