East Asia Workcamp
Description: It’s SCI’s 6th East Asia workcamp(trilateral initiatives by SCI Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan). Recently the political situation in East Asia is not so stable. In Japan we have witnessed hate speech against Koreans in Japan. SCI Japan thinks that it’s the best time to organize East Asia camp among the people from this region to work and live together in the workcamp. Workcamp take place in Suginoko village which was used to be elementary school closed in 1978 with 103years history. Now the local organization renovating the place to make it as community center for co-existence of diverse background people.Not only working for renovation in Suginoko village, but also the volunteers will have chance to know each other through the camp which may give different idea towards other countries.
Type of Work: Renovation of class rooms of ex-elementary school
Study Theme: Exchange views of East Asia countries and the country where the participants are currently living(China, Korea, Japan). Learning from history during world war 2 and discussing about history and future of East Asia region. Learning about local community(Suginoko village)'s history as well.
Accommodation: Tents in the classrooms of ex-elementary school, need to bring sleeping bag. The blankets will be provided, but it's too cold without sleeping bag.
Language: participants are encouraged to communicate in English, since it is trilateral Int'l workcamp(SCI Hong Kong, Korea and Japan).
Requirements: Open minded to different point of view especially about politics and history in east Asia region.
