WAO - Festival of Music and Psy-Trance Culture
Description: WAO Sustainable Solutions was founded in 2015 with the aim of raising awareness among a larger group of people about the need of adopting practices that increase the attention and the environmental sustainability through various activities such as seminars, workshops and events. Among the events it organizes there is the WAO (We Are One), Festival of Music and Psy-Trance Culture, which since 2015 represents the major moment of participation in the activiting process in the field of eco-sustainability. Each year thousands of people from all over the world and of all ages visit the Festival. Participants share the enjoyment of being together, experience of wellbeing on personal and collective level, the pleasure of music and knowledge exchange.
Type of Work: The activities during the workcamp will support the preparation of the Festival. Specifically volunteers will contribute to: construction of furnishings and structures, support for the construction of water systems and electrical networks, creation of decorations, signage and installations with recycled and natural materials (such as bamboo), cleaning paths and camping areas (including bathrooms), recycling and differentiation of materials, support in the kitchen for preparation of meals. Volunteers will be asked for flexibility in the variability of times between breaks and activities which will take place during the day. In the light of the very isolated location and the short duration, there are no free days but there will still be moments of entertainment and distraction on the spot.
Study Theme: The study part will focus on sustainable lifestyles, architectural solutions with low environmental impact and recycling of different materials. All the activities carried out by the volunteers will incorporate the study part as they will be guided by professionals and experts who will be able to transmit their knowledge in a process of learning by doing.
Accommodation: Volunteers will sleep in tents located in the future Festival camping area. They will have to bring their own tent, sleeping bag and mat. Bathrooms are 300 meters far from the camping area. The kitchen is about 600 meters far from camping and will be shared with the staff/people employed in the preparation of the Festival with whom volunteers will eat, although there is a possibility of cooking independently. Volunteers will clean the spaces they use. There is no internet access but there is telephone coverage with the major operators.
Requirements: Predisposition to manual and creative activities, atitude for group work, flexibility in schedule, sharing of project values, adaptibility to camping and wild life. The volunteer camp takes place in the mountains, outdoor in a forested area: there will be dust and pollens.
Approximate Location: Monte Peglia is located in the province of Terni, a town in Umbria region, a 30-minute by car from Orvieto.
Notes: Given the particular attention to the activities that have to be carried out, during the workcamp participants shouldn't drink alcohol. The location of the Festival is isolated and there aren't ATMs around (the nearest is 15 km). For the same reason, there aren't free days in the schedule, and volunteers will spent their whole workcamp time on site. To pass moments of entertainment we invite you to bring musical instruments and so on. It is useful to bring the driving license.
