Gestures of first aids (Agou)
Description: A majority of Togolese are unaware of the simple gestures to help the victims of a road accident or other incidents. Everyday many accidents occur in the cities and villages of Togo. Realising that the situation is increasingly alarming, NGO ASTOVOT sets up the project "Gestures of first aids" which consists of raising awareness and training especially the moto-drivers “Zémidjan” and other road-users on life-saving skills (traumas, bleedings, and cardiac arrests). This isn't just about training the beneficiaries but also about preventing, limiting or excluding an imminent danger and to teach them how to alert emergency services.
Type of Work: Aims of the workcamp: - Training volunteers on the modules of "gestures of first aids"; - To raise awareness and to train the moto-drivers and other road-users; - To organize an event to raise awareness at a public place
Work to do: - Preparing the modules of training and awareness- raising with volunteers and coaches; - Identification of the places for training and awareness; - Implementation of the program. The gestures consist of stopping bleedings, avoiding cardiac arrest, to threating wounds and burns
Accommodation: The housing conditions are generally rudimental. The volunteers will be accommodated together in a single house with several bedrooms (usually 2 to 4 rooms). They will reside near the project site. Volunteers will sleep on mats made out of plastics or straw. But they can buy or bring along small airbeds or little floor-mats, and a mosquito net... In addition to the project activities, the volunteers can organize rides, meetings with local communities, parties and excursions in the surrounding villages. NB: Internet access and Electricity are limited according to areas of the project.
Language: The languages of the workcamp are English and French.
Requirements: We kindly ask the volunteers to bring along tools and pedagogic kits concerning first aid gestures.
Approximate Location: Situated at 110 km in the north-west of Lome (capital of Togo), the munuicipality of Agou is a remarquable city.
