Youth Work (Socio-educational) with children
Description: In means of promoting social-educational activities in the new library in the village of Yéviépé and encouraging students to read by themselves, NGO ASTOVOT organize a project of youth work for the students of this village. That project offers an environment for self-fulfillment and improves the educational level of children before school starts. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness among parents, showing the importance of their duties in education.
Type of Work: Aims of the workcamp: Initiate recreational and educational activities (games, songs, reading, dancing, sketches) in the library for the benefit of children; organize coaching classes ( english, french and mathematics) to improve the educational level of the children.
Work to do: - Prepare the courses and youth work; - Give the courses (french, english and mathematics) in the primary school for children; - Organization several educational and recreational in the library.
Accommodation: The housing conditions are generally rudimental. The volunteers will be accommodated together in a single house with several bedrooms (usually 2 to 4 rooms). They will reside near the project site. Volunteers will sleep on mats made out of plastics or straw. But they can buy or bring along small airbeds or little floor-mats, and a mosquito net... In addition to the project activities, the volunteers can organize rides, meetings with local communities, parties and excursions in the surrounding villages. NB: Internet access and Electricity are limited according to areas of the project.
Language: The languages of the workcamp are English and French.
Requirements: It is desirable that the volunteers bring paper, pencils, notebooks, markers, games for children, etc.
Approximate Location: Located 12 km from the city of Kpalimé and near the border Togo-Ghana; Yéviépé is a little village with a very green landscape, water courses and approximately 3000 inhabitants. The population is predominantly rural and agricultural. The activities are based on the production of cassava, corn, rice, yams... and also breeding. The local people are very welcoming. Every year in august, this village is having a party which brings together the natives of the village.
