A flea market for Ethiopia: new paths of international solidarity (Imola, Emilia-Romagna)
Description: We will raise funds for the community of the small village of Tarcha in the region of Dawro Konta (Ethiopia). The specific project will be announced at the end of February and will be decided with the missionaries.The flea market is organized from more than fourty years and it's supported by the presence of many volunteers each year alongside SCI volunteers. Its aim is to raise funds for the mission of the Friars Minor Capuchin of Emilia-Romagna in Dawro Konta (Ethiopia). Each year the missionaries rely on SCI for such project.
Type of Work: Volunteers are going to support the setting up and the management a flea market. First the volunteers should set the different areas (furniture, clothing, bikes, books, etc.), then there will be the opening to the public. There will be also collections of objects in the towns nearby Imola. Concerning community life, volunteers should keep cleaned rooms (no preparing meals). Some volunteers of Imola will organize the work shifts. The working hours are from 9:00 to 12:30 and from 14:30 to 18:30.
Study Theme: During the camp there will be studing part about two different topics. One of them will be about Capuccinis missionar work and activites in Ethiopia. Another will be announced after its approval.
Accommodation: Male and female will sleep in separate dorms equipped with new beds and mattresses. Volunteers should bring their own sheets or sleeping bag, personal hygiene material and towels. Shared bathrooms have been renovated a few years ago. Respect for schedules and place is requested.
Language: The main language of the camp is English. However, during the flea market costumers might speak only Italian.
Requirements: Ability to live in community, respect for the rules, respect for the place and people, ability to adapt to the required work.
Approximate Location: Imola, Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italia
Notes: The convent, where the camp is located, is close to the historical center of the city and to a shopping center. Internet is free but with time restrictions due to the high number of volunteers. The partner is religious institution and moments for praying in their daily life are present.
