Leckmelm Farm, Ullapool
Description: Leckmelm is a small farm in the North West Highlands of Scotland. The farm is run ecologically and where possible, Leckmelm aims to provide sustainable jobs and houses to local families. They have a garden run by a local community group which provides growing opportunities for people who don't have a land to garden or for people who want to learn more. The farm aims to manage the land in a way that benefits the environment and peripheral ecosystems. You will be asked to live and work on a working farm.
Type of Work: During the first week you will prepare Leckmelm for lambing season; this will include helping prepare the lambing shed and birthing area for the animals, and clearing the footpath. During the second week, another task will include invasive species removal around the farm. You’re contribution and hard work is very much appreciated and it is hoped that the skills you provide the environment will be long lasting.
Study Theme: You will learn about the local culture, community, food and agriculture, besides forest management.
Accommodation: Sleeping arrangements: Volunteers are accommodated in a three-bedroom cottage. Food and cooking arrangements: Food is provided, volunteers need to cook for themselves Toilets and laundry: volunteers are provided with towels and they have access to the washing machine Phones: good coverage Internet/computer access: WI-FI connection
Requirements: Ideally, volunteers should enjoy working outdoors and be interested in forestry.

Notes: INSURANCE: The SCI scheme provides basic health insurance cover for the duration of the volunteer project. You will need to take out your own personal belongings and travel insurance as well. Make sure that your medical care is covered. If you are a European citizen, please carry your European Health Insurance Card with you. PASSPORTS: To enter the UK you will need to show a valid passport or national identity card if you are an EEA citizen. If you are not an EU national, you will need to show further documentation, including a landing card, and you may need a visa. VISAS: You will need to acquire a visa before you travel to Britain to volunteer, if you are not a British citizen or a citizen of one of the European Economic Area (EEA) countries.
