Marianów calling (near Warsaw)
Description: Marianów together with AXA association are inviting all brave and creative volunteers to join our camp! It will be the 8th time the volunteers visit our village. Local children are eagerly waiting for guests as they know that they can expect the greatest people and the best time with them. Marianów is a quiet and peaceful place with nearby forests and welcoming inhabitants. During two weeks of workcamp we would like to organize daily workshops for a group of local children (6-12 years old), about 30 of them. Our neighborhood does not provide any attractions for them during summer time. As a result, the workcamp is usually the only chance for kids to spend time in an interesting way and far from computers.
Type of Work: Volunteers will be responsible for organizing games and workshops for children (primarily related to the culture of their home country), of taking care of them during the workcamp, and of keeping order in the buildings and the area where the workshops will take place. They may be also asked to help in the kitchen. They will work approximately 6 hours per day during the week. We plan to divided the workshops into four main subjects: art craft (led by local artists), sport and recreation (cycling tours, climbing, etc.), chess (led by a local chess fan) and cultural diversity (prepared and led by volunteers). Volunteers will be involved to some extent in every theme group either helping with organization of workshops, or leading them themselves.
Accommodation: Guest house, shared rooms, showers and toilets available. Sleeping bags are not necessary.
Requirements: Our ideal volunteer is highly motivated to work with children and can easily interact with the young ones. His/her head is full of ideas;responsibility and self-reliance are his/her best qualities. We prefer nonsmokers. All volunteers are required to submit a background-check document proving no criminal history before arrival.
Approximate Location: The workcamp will take place in Marianów - a small village 50 km from Warsaw.
Notes: Our aim is to prepare activities that will bring joy to kids and will be informative at the same time. We would like to encourage them to start speaking English. Please, note that although they learn English at school, most of them will be too shy to use it. For this reason, volunteers should be willing to communicate beyond language barriers, relying also on their creativity and non-verbal communication skills. Weekends will be dedicated to group socializing, trips and fun. This workcamp has been organised with success since many years.
