Cleaning and improving the surroundings of the Gaià River in Santa Coloma de Queralt
Description: 'Santa Coloma in Transition' is an ecological initiative which works to promote and develop sustainable living as part of the "transitions towns" movement. The core values of the project are cooperation, sustainability, self-sufficiency, ecology and responsibility. The workcamp will focus on cleaning around the Gaià river.
Type of Work: The tasks that will be carried out will consist of cleaning and clearing the area of the Gaià River in the area of the road of “la resclosa”.
The necessary tools will be supplied on the first day and will consist of hoes, shovels, spikes, carts, gloves, scissors ... etc.
The work will be outdoors preferably in shady area. We will always try to be accompanied by a person from the promoter group.
The work will be done during the morning.
Study Theme: Due to the characteristics of the promoting entity (“Fundación Queralt” and in its beginnings, “Santa Coloma en Transición”) and the work they will do, we believe that the most appropriate is to work on sustainability at the local level, the conservation of the natural environment and knowledge of the social and historical environment.
Accommodation: The volunteers will sleep at the community space in the hiking centre of the town in the center of the village. The place has a kitchen with all the necessary utensils to be able to cook, room, shower and toilet services and a washing machine.
At the beginning of the workcamp, basic food will be provided to the volunteers and then they themselves will be able to buy what they need in the shops of the town.
The volunteers will cook the food themselves.
You need to bring a sleeping bag.
Requirements: Please bring a sleeping bag.
Approximate Location: Santa Coloma de Queralt, Tarragona.
Notes: In order to encourage contact and exchange, volunteers are expected to participate in the summer municipal activities. We also plan to participate in activities prior to the “Festa Major” that starts on the 17th and ends on the 21st of August. Even the camp will end the 19th of August, the volunteers are welcome to stay until the 21st if they take care of their expenses during the last days.
Also, there will be some talks, dances, workshops, documentaries, dinners ... etc.
Children and families are welcome, but it's not a family camp, so your children maybe will be the only ones there.
