Lukomorye: Pushkin's forest
Description: The camp is organized by the state memorial museum dedicated to the most famous Russian poet - Alexander Pushkin. Boldino (name of the village) is Pushkin's family estate from the end of the XVIth century. The poet had the phenomenal inspiration here in 1830 - the unique Boldino autumn. There are the authentic mansion and the park of the XIXth century in Boldino. At present time it includes the memorial country estate in the village Bolshoe Boldino, the grove Luchinnik and the poet's son A.A. Pushkin's country estate in the village Lvovka. Volunteers will be working in grove Luchinnik.
Type of Work: Volunteers will support the museum staff in maintaining the grove. They are expected to: - cut dead branches - saw fallen trees - take branches to dump - tidy up the grove - cut grass
Study Theme: Volunteers will learn more about Pushkin and his life at this place, and as a result, a great deal about Russian culture, as Pushkin is considered a national treasure.
Accommodation: Volunteers are going to stay in a comfortable guest house, equipped with shared bathroom facilities. Bed linen is provided. There is a washing machine and a traditional Russian sauna. Food will be cooked by the volunteers in the kitchen facilities, according to the cooking schedule. There is no WiFi in the guesthouse, but there is an available internet connection in the museum.
Approximate Location: Boldino village, Nizhegorodskaya oblast
Notes: There is an equipped sports ground and a lake for swimming. During the free time, the volunteers will be taken to a guided tour around the museum, and have a chance to try pottery. Also there is an opportunity to visit Nizhny Novgorod during the weekend. Please bring work clothes and gloves.
