Kőszeg – Teaching and Renovation with children
Description: SOS Children’s Villages are a global charity, politically and religiously independent, working to prevent family breakdown and protect and care for children who have lost parental care.SOS works to ensure that the rights of all children, in every society, are respected and fulfilled. The children are growing up in family houses where their own brothers and sisters can stay together. Currently, the organisation is active in 134 countries. In Hungary it provides loving home for 400 children and youngsters. Útilapu - SCI Hungary started to cooperate with SOS Hungary 5 years ago. It will be the 3rd year when an international voluntary workcamp is organised in the Kőszeg Children’s Village. Volunteers will help to organise and carry out daily and leisure time activities for the little children.
Type of Work: The volunteers will plan, organise and carry out daily tasks (f.e. cooking, helping to clean, helping to put kids to bed, etc.) as well as free time activities (f.e. sport events, art workshops, language and music games, excursions, etc) in the summer camp for elementary school aged children. We expect volunteers to be proactive, participating enthusiastically in the creation of a positive experience for the kids and the co-workers in the Village. The summer camp is organised for local children in the town and children living in SOS, while their (foster) parents are on vacation or working. SOS co-workers and 2 trained campleaders will be assisting the whole time. The volunteers are asked to make an interactive presentation about their home country for the international events.
Study Theme: There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about youth and social work with disadvantaged children and the child care system in Hungary. There will be a presentation organised on Service Civil International and the 90+ years of the movement as well as on Útilapu, the Hungarian branch of SCI. The campleaders will share knowledge on short, medium and long term voluntary opportunities, in and outside of Europe. And of course, volunteers will be learning about other cultures, each other and themselves in funny and unexpected ways.
Accommodation: It'll be in one of the family houses in the Kőszeg Children's Village. There are 2 bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. The ingredients are provided for the meals and volunteers will cook together.
Please note, the camp is organised in child protection facilities with the participation of underaged children, therefore the consumption of any drugs, alcohol or tobacco is strictly FORBIDDEN!
Language: Basic English is required but remember that the willing to communicate with each other will break down any language barrier.
Requirements: We recommend our camp to proactive, brave, cheerful and hard-working people who like children.
Please write us a separate MOTIVATION LETTER to explain us why you find attractive participating in this camp and how you could participate with your ideas to the programme!
