Foreningen 771, Vardø
Description: Vardø is a small town in the very northeast of Norway with app. 2000 inhabitants. It is the oldest town in northern Norway, situated on an island in the Barents Sea. Vardø is the only town in Norway situated in the arctic climate zone. The distance from Oslo to Vardø is about 2000 km, so you need to estimate some extra costs for travelling there. Vardø has lots of history to offer visitors, amongst others memorials from World War 2. Another aspect of Vardø is nature, various kinds of birds are nesting there, and there are good opportunities for hiking. Foreningen 771 is a voluntary organization in Vardø. It is now building a house for silence, meditation and different cultural activities. In 2014 and 2015 Foreningen 771 built an outdoor place and a small house in cooperation with ID
Type of Work: The vols will work up the place outside the silent room, prepare access for disabled people to the building, and make benches. One of the working days will be related to cleaning nearby beaches for rubbish.
Study Theme: You will learn about Norwegian-Russian relations in the northern part of Norway.
Accommodation: In a house near the center of Vardø.

Notes: Be prepared for physical work during the camp that may be rough, but you will have lots of fun, too. Besides the manual work we will offer lots of exciting activities in and near Vardø. Please, bring raingear and warm clothes. Absolutely no use of drugs.
