Building social Inclusion in the Italian hills (Murisengo, Piemonte region)
Description: Panta Rei Cooperative manages “family-type” communities hosting people with intellectual disabilities. The main aim is to create paths of autonomy and social integration. The communities are located in the countryside in the hills of Monferrato and close to the major cities of Turin, Asti and Casale Monferrato.
Type of Work: Volunteers will participate in daily activities together with the guests of the community, in particular garden-therapy (not only growing vegetables but also maintenance and cleaning of natural green areas closed to the communities ), they will also take part in maintenance activities, handmade laboratory, games and socializing with hosts, trips.
Study Theme: Volunteers will learn about garden-therapy and its benefits, issues relating to social and community life, and will get a hint of the local culture and history.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in mixed rooms inside the community structure, which is different from that for regular guests. It is equiped with showers and bathrooms. The kitchen is located in another structure. Volunteers will eat with community guests. Meals will be prepared by community workers and with the support of volunteers. Volunteers will be responsible for cleaning the common spaces. They have to bring sleeping bags and towels.
Language: English is the only required language. However, a basic knowledge of italian is welcome, it will help to socialize and create relationships more easily with the guests of the community.
Requirements: Volunteers should have socialization skills, animation and adaptation. Part of the work will be agricultural / environmental which might be hard for people who are not physically trained.
