Comunity life and extension of the hippotherapy center near Rome
Description: Ciampacavallo Onlus and EquiAzione joined together to organize rehabilitation activities, sport and ludic workshops for disabled people, with mental, relational or social disorders, and the local community. All of the activities are inclusive, that is, planned and realized by the staff and the users together. They organize services for those who want to approach horses in a different way, different from sport or traditional equestrian center. This way of working, purely non assistancial, allows the creation of an authentic relational dimension. During this camp we'll work at the settling up of a new place in the south of Rome, with the aim of welcoming more people and offering to them the opportunity to develop a relationship with horses in an exciting setting of nature and history.
Type of Work: The aim of the camp is to create new areas for the center. We will work on creating an area where children could play outdoors games, on building a traditional lodge made of wood, and opening new paths in the woods. All of the activities at the camp will be organized in mixed group made up of volunteers and other users. Volunteers will also be in charge of cleaning of the house and the kitchen.
Study Theme: Different study moments will be organized, about local plants and animals, the history of human presence in the territory and the traditional use of horses by the butteri (Italian cowboys). We will organize workshops about different traditional jobs with local elderlies: cheese making, leather working, maintenance of saddles and harnesses, agriculture.
Accommodation: Three bathrooms are available for all the guests of the camp (volunteers, users and workers). There are two kitchens (one inside and one outside). SCI volunteers will give a hand to the cook at lunch and self-organize to prepare their dinner.
Language: A basic level of Italian is appreciated, as it facilitates the integration between volunteers and users of the camp.
Requirements: Adaptability, team working, punctuality, flexibility and tolerance. Animal-friendlly (horses) attitude and manual skills would be a plus.
Approximate Location: The camp will be settled up in the south of Rome, in a place called Pratoni del Vivaro, 30km far from Rome, in the direction of Velletri\Roman Castle. The camp will be located at 580mt upon sea level, the nearest towns are Rocca di Papa and Rocca Priora 10km far. It is possible to reach Rome by bus in 1,30 h.
