Description: The workcamp will take place at the rehabilitation center "Право вибору/Pravo vyboru" (The right for a choice) for children with disabilities, including visually impaired and blind children. The centre owned a two floor separate building with a small garden, located in one of sleeping quarters of Kharkiv. The aim of the workcamp is to create different tools and materials for rehabilitation and development of blind/ with bad vision kids and help the staff of the centre.

Type of Work: Depends on skills and ideas of the participants. For example, if there will be a volunteer with graphic design skills, we may print a special multifunctional books for blind/sighted kids. We will work mostly with hands, creating sensoric stands for playground, textil sensoric books, sets for handicraft, postcards, learning/game sets, adopt board games etc. You may prepare your national fairy tail for the future book (children learn English and German), design of a toy or stand, propose your own activity. Initiative and creativity are highly appreciated! Those, who are not into handicraft, but would like to learn, are welcome as well! Volunteers will work with the variety of materials as carton, paper, fabric, plastic, wood etc. It is also possible to help teachers working with kids.

Study Theme: You will learn about the specific of children with disabilities, their rehabilitation and how to create tools and materials with your own hands. You will have a chance to learn how to lead a blind person as well as learn what is braille and how braille embosser works. Further, the center is located within Kharkiv and volunteers will have an opportunity to explore the city, it’s culture and history.

Accommodation: The volunteers will sleep on the floor in a big room of the rehabilitation center “Pravo vyboru” and prepare meals themselves. Please bring your own mattress and sleeping bag. Toilets, showers and a kitchen is in the house.

Language: Russian, Ukrainian

Requirements: Please, suggest your ideas in a motivation chapter in application. It will help the staff to design a program of the camp.

Approximate Location: Kharkiv is the second large city in Ukraine, once may say it’s cultural and educational centre. City is full of students, there are lots of museums, galleries, cafes, parks, art and cultural centres.

Notes: This is a third workcamp, that we are doing with "Pravo vyboru“, their website: http://www.pravovybora.org/ (some info is in English).
