Purpose of extra costs:
The camp fee covers simple work camp food and accommodation, administrative costs to ensure the success of the workcamp ie arrangements for the whole work camp preparation in terms of communication before and during, transport for meeting with different community stakeholders. The fees does not cover pick up and drop off costs. The cost from Kisumu airport by taxi to KCEP offices is 40 euros.

Description: The project aims and healthy living among members of the community, due to high poverty within the community, it’s prudent that people are empowered with local initiatives that can guarantee them a source of livelihood and enable them meet their daily needs. the project aims at improving the life of members and the communities by involving them in agricultural activities, empower them with health education to curb spread of HIV as well as creation of business environment for creation of income generating projects like poultry farming, animal husbandry among others.

Type of Work: Organic farming (horticultural farming), growing tissue culture bananas, planting soya, business development and entrepreneurial trainings, community awareness and advocacy, sensitization of the community on HIV/aids and malaria, poultry keeping. The volunteers will participate as a team in the whole duration of the camp. Volunteers can share and exchange different cultural forms during the workcamp. The orientation for the workcamp is scheduled at KCEP offices for the day before the workcamp start at Kipepeo Community Resource Centre.

Accommodation: KCEP provides accommodation that is shared by all the volunteers. Volunteers must bring their own tents, sleeping bags, mosquito nets or repellants, spot light, cap, sun cream, personal effects i.e. toiletries. Internet, supermarkets and banking are available in Luanda town, which is 20 minutes’ drive from KCEP offices.

Requirements: Commitment of volunteers; Project or work camps are not just cheap holidays; hard work and full participation is required. Volunteers should be self-driven, adaptable, people oriented and tenacious. Also bring sun cream, mosquito repellent, working gloves, boots/shoes, light working clothes during working hours, warm clothes at night, flash light, personal effects (toiletries).

Approximate Location: KCEP is located around 30 km west of Kisumu and 400 km west of Nairobi, capital city of the Republic of Kenya.

Notes: As a matter of fact the orientations shall be held on one day before the workcamp begins. The participants must arrive at least two days before the workcamp begins to have rest time and also to get to know each other, as well to get knowledge of the host village before the orientation. Participants will also have a chance to go the town Luanda from Kima to familiarize themselves with the transport system, markets, banks, supermarkets among others before they depart for the camp. All workcamp orientations are held at KCEP offices. Please, ensure that your travel arrangements would allow at least two days of reaching before the start of the workcamp so that you participate in the orientation process before the start of the workcamp.
