Hub Of Creativity, Krusevac
Description: Centre for the alternative culture “The Nest” is a house dedicated to the revival and promotion of modern art trough exhibitions, festivals, music shows, cinema theatre, discussions and workshops. It is a place where the young people gather and connect with each other, so they could develop and fulfil the cultural needs of both themselves and the local community of Krusevac. After a long series of volunteering actions that took place last year, during which we cleaned up, renovated and repurposed the space that is now used as Alternative Cultural Centre “The Nest”, some low priority works were left undone - mainly the leisure areas and resting and sitting places. This year’s workcamp will focus on solving those issues by building leisure furniture, benches, hammocks, bird-houses etc.
Type of Work: The aim is to enable the Alternative Cultural Center which will, in the spirit of the times in which we live, enable creative activity of young people, show the ways in which computers, projectors, lighting and other modern media can help young people discover and use their creative potential and meet the requirements of modern audience. The local municipality office in Bivolje supported our initiative and ceded an abandoned building for the project. The volunteers will build supporters for hammocks (from textile and hardwood) and set them up at the river bank of Rasina, that passes by next to the centre. Also they will hang some more hammocks on the surrounding trees and on the terrace of the building. Two swings will be constructed and installed on the tall trees.
Study Theme: Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the rich cultural and historical heritage of the city of Krusevac. We will hold discussions and workshops on the possibilities of abandoned spaces converted into useful ones.
Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in a house, the social center for young people, with kitchen and common toilets and bathrooms, in double rooms. It is necessary to bring a sleeping bag. The volunteers will independently prepare meals from ingredients provided by the organizer. The house is located near the workplace.
Approximate Location: Krusevac is a city located in Central Serbia, on the river Rasina and has about 75,000 residents. In the Middle Ages, it was the capital of Serbia. One day of the workcamp will be reserved for visiting nearby locations: Lake Celije and Jastrebac Mountain.
