Description: This workcamp will be organized for the first time with Association for Promotion of Regional Development in Nishiyama area, Kumano city which is depopulated area in Mie prefecture. There are 220 residents of which 73% is over 65 years old in Nishiyama area where volunteers mainly stay in. One youth who has joined international workcamp before, has started and been organizing weekend workcamps since 2012 in Nishiyama area. After 5 years, local people have been getting open-minded to youths from outside of the area. Local people are getting too old to maintain public place such as parks or ruins of a castle, so they need hands from young people!
Type of Work: Volunteers will mainly help local people to maintain Nishiyama area such as grass cutting at parks and community center etc.. Also maintenance of ruins of castle such as making stairs beautiful!
Study Theme: Volunteers will learn and feel about situation of seriously depopulated area in Japan.
Accommodation: Community center. So please bring your sleeping bag. Meals will be cooked by volunteers by turns.
Language: English (Japanese is also welcomed!)
Requirements: Positive attitude to enjoy rural, remoted area. Open mind to respect and communicate with local people
Approximate Location: Nishiyama area, Kumano city , Mie prefecture. It is more than 200km far both from Osaka and Nagoya.
