Yunodake 2 (Fukushima)
Description: Organized together with Iwaki no Mori ni Shitashimukai(IMS) since 2016. IMS start on October 3, 2001 at Mt. Yunodake in Iwaki city. IMS is a NPO maintaining forest and organizing activities there for children. They aim to revive SATOYAMA forest by citizen's. hands and they hope people enjoy satoyama safely and freely. IMS think it is necessary to know the forest and the soil which are the source of life to understand the essence of the environmental problem.
Type of Work: 1) Maintenance and restoration of chestnut garden. Grass cutting/shrubs clearance where we have planted maple trees. 2) Maintenance of Yunodake mountain retreat nature walk course used for nature observation sessions and nature games, including grass cutting/undergrowth clearance. 3) maintenance of the coastal forest damaged by the tsunami in the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Study Theme: Volunteers will get knowledge of nature, revive from huge earthquake.
Accommodation: Volunteer stay a Japanese style room. Rooms for men and women. Cooking done in turns. All basic facilities are provided.
Language: English (Japanese is also welcomed!)
Requirements: Interest to protect nature and to exchange with people.
Approximate Location: Iwaki City is a city located in the southern part of Fukushima Prefecture. It has the largest population and area in Fukushima Prefecture. Yunodake is located about 10 km southwest of the city center city.
