Challenged vocational training at Camphill School, Otse village, Southeast Botswana: Key to empowering physically challenged youth in Botswana-Appeal for support.
Description: The Camphill rehabilitation centre is located in the village of Otse, approximately 70 km south of Gaborone. The centre provides vocational rehabilitation programmes to the disabled kids. The Camphill is commited to provision of vocational capacity to the underprivileged students afflicted by psychological and physiological challenges.
Type of Work: The volunteers will provide support on daily rehabilitation sessions and provide mentoring and coaching on the vocational upskilling and sports development. Volunteers will also provide psychological and physiological couselling to kids at the Camphill Centre. Volunteers can share and exchange different cultural forms during the workcamp. The Mokolodi Sanctuary is only 25 minutes drive from the centre and therefore can provide the much needed excursion during the workcamp. There is also the nearby scenery Mayelanoong Hill, which is regarded as sacred cultural site, with some unexplained mystery about disappearance of lovers centuries ago.
Accommodation: Camphill Rehabilitation Centre provides accommodation in their shared dormitories. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own tents for their privacy. Hot showers and bathrooms/toilets with running water are available. Please remember to bring very warm clothes and sleeping bags. Most importantly, workcamp is a platform for cultural exchange, volunteers should bring meal recipes and music of their own countries.
Language: ENGLISH is the medium of communication in work camp. Note: Workcamps are form of cultural exchange as such participants are encouraged to learn each other language Participants who are not good in English are also accepted to participate as BWA encourages non-discrimination.
Requirements: Volunteers are responsible for their own travel arrangements organizing their own transport and passports. It is usually advisable to check out travel prices before deciding on a particular placement. BWA is not a travel agency, but will help where possible. We communicate with other partner organizations and with the person who wish to come by either fax, telephone or e-mail with regular update.
Approximate Location: Otse, 65 kilometres south of capital city, Gaborone
Notes: The work camp participation fee is US $200 per participant, which covers simple work camp meals, arrangements for the whole work camp preparation in terms of communication, electronic mailing and transport for meeting with different stakeholders. BWA organizes transport for participants from the airport in Gaborone to Mochudi (BWA Head Office) at a nominal fee of US$ 30 per participant, where participants are inducted prior to departure to work camps destination.
