Description: The aim of the project is to actively integrate persons with intellectual disabilities into the life of local communities, and to develop a system of support for them. We do this through the organisation of a series of creative and educational workshops, so to reduce the social exclusion of our beneficiaries living in Slatina and the surrounding areas. The project proposal also includes the adaptation of the Association's space, which will provide the beneficiaries with a half-day stay where they will develop their life skills. The project will include the Youth Association KRIK, which operates in our county and strives to help solve local community problems, as well as to improve the quality of life of citizens.
Type of Work: Volunteers will be active in restoring the area (detached house) the Association will use. This includes use of outdoor and indoor space, to make the beneficiaries a decent home in which they will spend most of their time practicing daily life activities. Activities will include arranging the exterior (garden, yard) and interior (moving, renovating). In addition to the described work, volunteers will be involved in everyday creative-social workshops with the beneficiaries, where they will create objects to be exhibited at fairs, events and show presentations. The work will be for four hours in the morning, between 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. In the afternoon volunteers will socialise with beneficiaries and actively spend time with them.
Study Theme: There will be 3 workshops for volunteers: 1) Life of intellectually disabled people in rural communities. 2) Association for intellectually disabled people “Vretenac” (mission and vision). 3) Local tradition and heritage of Slatina county.
Accommodation: The exact venue is to be confirmed. Accommodation will be either in a hostel or in a private rented house, or within another venue provided by the Association. Regardless of the type of accommodation, each place will meet all the volunteers’ requirements. Volunteers are required to bring their own sleeping bags. Volunteers will be divided into kitchen teams to prepare 3 meals per day.
Language: The working language of the camp is English. The Association Vretenac will provide a volunteer who will translate when needed.
Requirements: Along with your application, please send a motivation letter, as well as proof of clean criminal record.
Approximate Location: The camp will be held in the town of Slatina, located in Virovitica-Podravina County.
Notes: One day a week, volunteers are free to relax and get to know the city in the way they choose.
