Bedouin for a week!
Description: This workcamp will give you a unique experience living with the Bedouin tribes’ lifestyle in South of Jordan. Bedouins, are experts in surviving in the desert and are known for their delicious tea and storytelling. You will spend one week with them, cooking, play with the children and help to clean up the environment from solid waste. The camp is a mixture of hard work, adventure and intercultural learning. It's all about improving cross-cultural sensitivity and other life skills while having fun and making memories. We developed our camp to promote the universal core values of Caring, Respect, Responsibility and Honesty. Type of Work: Campers will be unplugged from their usual life. They will be engaged in community service initiatives, enjoy the outdoors and nature, grow full-circle in skills and character, establish lifelong friendships, and experience a simpler style of living. Campers will also have access to a variety of entertainment activities including Camel riding, sleeping in the nature, sightseeing, handicraft making as well as enjoy cooking the traditional food with local beverage. Basically, campers will work for about 5 hours per day. They will be accompanied with a local community leader and his assistants to help campers to enjoy the experience and to fulfill of the program goals.
Study Theme: Culture exchange by doing real activities through active socialization and engagement in a variety of Community service activities: - Different activities that enhance social life and leadership skills. - Learning about the history sights in south of Jordan. - Learn about the nature.
Accommodation: Participants will be mainly hosted in Bedouin tents in a rural Bedouin-dominated area. They will cook for themselves, they will have access to a kitchen with its appliances. Special diets can be accommodated. There will be separation between male and female. It is recommended that participants bring their sleeping bags with them as they may have the chance to sleep in the nature and old caves for two nights.
Language: It's expected you will help in teaching the local community about the English languages in few sessions.
Requirements: This camp requires an additional motivation letter to explain in more detail why you would like to attend.
Approximate Location: The project will be conducted in the Governorate of Ma'an, 220km south of Amman. Ma’an has the largest area of the 12 governorates that constitute Jordan about 32% of the total area of Jordan, however, it has the lowest population density; less than 4 persons per square km. It has international borders with Saudi Arabia from the east and south, and borders Aqaba, Tafilah, and Karak from the west, and Amman Governorate from the north.
Notes: - Volunteers will join an interantional group of 12 volunteers. - Volunteers are recommended to buy the Jordan travel pass which includes visa and entrance to several cultural sites.
