No Border Fest
Description: "La Città dell’Utopia" (Utopia City) is a project of SCI Italy that takes place in Rome (San Paolo neighbourhood). The project is an ongoing workshop on active citizenship and local development. There are different events, initiatives, courses and workshops organized around 3 main themes: interculturality, sustainable lifestyles and active citizenship. This year again, “La Città dell'Utopia” organizes the “NO BORDER FEST”, three days of discussions, music and cultural events dedicated to the topic of migration, freedom of movement and struggle against diverse forms of racism.
Type of Work: The Festival focuses on the most urgent topics emerging in the last months in the area of international migration, with a focus on Rome/Italian context. The main topics of this edition are: the issue of borders; migration in the global context; connections between citizens’ rights and social inclusion/exclusion. A special attention will be dedicated to the following topics: the rights of education and intercultural education, democratic racism and institutional fascism. Activities: Support in the construction and preparation of scenographies and spaces. Support to the promotion of the Festival. Active role during the days of the event. Re-arrangement at the end of the Festival. Moreover, volunteers will contribute with some manual activities to the project “La Città dell’Utopia”.
Study Theme: The study part of the workcamp will follow the red-line of the Festival, issues connected to the topics of migration and rights. The volunteers will meet the local organization Laboratorio 53, partner of the Festival, who actively works with and in support to asylum seekers and refugees in Rome.
Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in the social hostel of Casale Garibaldi in the venue "La Città dell' Utopia". There will be mixed rooms, for maximum 7 volunteers per room. Sheets and blankets will be provided. No towels provided. The bathroom will be on the same floor and shared by all the volunteers. There will be a kitchen available for the volunteers: they will eat all meals together in the hostel.
Language: The spoken languages during the workcamp will be: English, Italian, Spanish, Catalan, Bulgarian, Greek, Ukrainian
Requirements: Interest in migration and social justice topics, group working skills, interest in organizing events, manual and artistic skills.
Approximate Location: The workcamp is situated in Rome. Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino Airport, Termini or Tiburtina railways stations in Rome.
