Description: This project is held in collaboration with [Ishimaki Kawanokami Project] commencing this year. Situated in the northern part of Ishimaki City, Kawanokami is an area with a population of 400 former households who resided in Ishimaki City’s coastal area before the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, and the region’s local residences. In 2015 [Kawanokami Project] began with the concept [Cultivate the town, nurture the people] to enrich the region’s community. To create a place for the residences to interact with one another through [Hyappyou-kan] a combination of café and library. Our goal: to endorse the region while connecting with the next generation.
Type of Work: Help with maintenance for the bamboo forest around the [Hyappou-kan] community space, as well as community building. Additionally, we will help children with their homework at [Terako-ya] after school, and organize international exchange events.
Study Theme: How to reconstruct the community from the Earthquake disaster.
Accommodation: Volunteer house(Japanese style). Simple self-catering. Meal is cooked by volunteer by turn. Share room.
Language: English (Japanese is also welcomed!)
Requirements: Need High motivation to work for disaster area and respect the local culture and way of the local organization!
Approximate Location: 1 hour by bus from Sendai Station. Situated on the East of Miyagi Prefecture with Kitakami River stretching through from North to South. Inland area thrives with rice cultivation while coastal area flourishes with fisheries and aquaculture.
