Description: Bulon Leh Island is situated far off the coastline in the Andaman Sea in the district of La Ngu, Satun province, Southern Thailand. We came by chance to know the local school after several visits to the island by our Thai and international volunteers. Every visit our relationship with the school teachers and the villagers was built up. They learn about our organization and are motivated to collaborate with us on holding this “Activities with Kids project” for their students.This will be our fourth workcamp at this place since 2013.
Type of Work: Possible Activities: • Give non-formal English classes by organizing activities relating education • Create teaching materials for teachers and kids • Adapt the classrooms by decorating/improving • Adjust the school area (creating new gardens, for example)
Study Theme: Alternative education: Kindness, Patience, coherence, loyalty, Put back human in the harmony of nature (ourselves first), basic of learning process, Value of life, Practical / Learning by doing, self-organization, adapted to local environment, leadership. What and how should we educate the students? What do we learn at the same time?
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in a school classroom and/or provided bungalow-like accommodation belonging to the school.
Language: Obviously everyone in Bulon Leh Island speaks Thai, some may understand English. Studying Thai culture and practicing basic Thai language prior to arrival would be helpful. However, the camp leader can teach some basic Thai during daily meeting or while working.
Requirements: • Volunteers should have positive motivation and being open minded (respect and willingness to understand other cultures and backgrounds). • Living conditions will be in Thai style (willingness to adapt and enjoy simple conditions of living).
