Description: The community has been hosting intercultural exchange program over the last fifteen years. In Partnerships with local community based organizations, faith based groups as well educational Institutions this project is organized. The project focus is to connect its participants and the host from different cultural, religious, geographic and socio-economic backgrounds. The final result is expected to be developing a greater understanding of diversity. In the past the programs has allowed its participants to learn from people who are different from themselves and integrate in a new and unique experiences beyond their own communities. Cultural exchange assists everybody involved to develop positive relationships with others, understand a broader range of perspectives, and develop understanding.
Type of Work: Based on the four components of the program (Orientation, Community services, cultural exchange, Development/global education) participants of this project will participate in a number of activities leading to Cultural exposure like Kiswahili Language and cooking classes, home stay, arts and craft. Meeting senior citizens for story sharing about the past, visiting cultural sites and ritual sites. Details will be available in the information sheet available upon confirmation of the project.
Study Theme: Intergeneration gatherings in a form of workshops, debates, sports and study tours will be organized under the theme of the project to provide an opportunity for both Program participants and host members to understand various cultural realities and its impact in development.
Accommodation: Participants are expected to be hosted in local host families within the community. Depending on the availability of the families, in some cases Participants will be sharing accommodation in community residential house. Clean water and electricity will be available. In that case living rooms will be shared with 3-5 Participants and available full time kitchen staff to manage meals preparation.
Language: The official language of this project is English and Kiswahili. However you need not to be fluent.
Requirements: No special or particular expertise/skills required; however a potential Participant for this project should be the one who is open minded and independent, interested in culture, travel, asking questions and sharing views. It is perfect for people who want to lean new languages and culture.
Approximate Location: The project is located in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam in Magole, Temeke region, Tanzania
Notes: €250 Non-refundable participation fee to be paid on arrival day. The participation fee covers the cost of airport pickups on arrival, local transport to the project (one way), orientation on arrival, food and accommodation during the program. The fee also contributes to the running cost of program activities before, during and after the program. However the participation fee does not cover the cost of medical/health services, cost of relevant Visas or permits, airport drop off on departure date, pocket money, free/leisure activities and other personal expenses.
