Youth for community Action
Description: Youth for community action is an educational project implemented in cooperation with various community based groups, faith based organization in the area with the aim of increasing understanding of economic, social, cultural, environmental and spiritual forces that shape the relationship between various societies. The project also focuses on enabling both locals and program participants to recognize in their own lives, the links between their realities and that of other people from other cultures and to acknowledge how much we can learn from one another. The long term vision of the project is to achieve a more just and sustainable world in the community, as well as more widely, in which power and resources are more fairly shared by all.
Type of Work: Based on the four components of the program (Orientation, Community services, cultural exchange, Development/global education) participants of this project will participate in a number of activities in cooperation with local Youths; these will include workshops, discussions, debates and study visits related to current world development issues. (E.g. peace and conflicts, justice, human rights, gender etc.). Participants will participate as will in renovation of Youth hostel and training rooms to be used for future youth programs.
Accommodation: Participants are expected to be hosted in local host families within the community. Depending on the availability of the families, in some cases Participants will be sharing accommodation in community residential house. Clean water and electricity will be available. In that case living rooms will be shared with 3-5 Participants and available full time kitchen staff to manage meals preparation.
Language: The official language of this project is English and Kiswahili. However you do not need to be fluent.
Requirements: No special or particular expertise/skills required; however a potential Participant for this project should be one who likes to interact with people from various cultures, interest in discussion and debates, open minded, interest on indoor sessions and outdoor activities and ability to work under less supervision.
Approximate Location: The project is located in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, in Magole, Temeke region, Tanzania
Notes: €250 Non-refundable participation fee to be paid on arrival day. The participation fee covers the cost of airport pickups on arrival, local transport to the project (one way), orientation on arrival, food and accommodation during the program. The fee also contributes to the running cost of program activities before, during and after the program. However the participation fee does not cover the cost of medical/health services, cost of relevant Visas or permits, airport drop off on departure date, pocket money, free/leisure activities and other personal expenses.
