Children’s’ Christmas Camp
Description: In Tanzania private and public schools have a long holiday during the Month of December until early January. This is normally a most joyful moment. However; not all Children in the community will enjoy the season as everybody due to social and economic challenges/limitations. In Partnership with local schools and the community members, this project has been designed to offer an opportunity for children and teenagers from all social-economic background, ethnicity and religions to have time together during end of the yea festivals. We are intending to plant the seed of peace and harmony with various groups in the community.
Type of Work: Participants of this project will interact most of the time with children of 6-14 years support the children in various activities during the project. Games: Indoor and outdoor games that will stimulate learning, team building and activeness. Please bring new games to share with Kids. Physical activities: Action jumping, Olympic Games etc. Gardening: Ornamental and vegetable planting, composting, garden tour etc. Nature activities: Bird watching, Plant a tree, Tree feeder, learning about various plants, birds, animals, worms, and insects available in the area. Academic development: Holidays’ home works, various competitions aiming to motivate the kids to like education and get ready for the New Year studies.
Study Theme: Intergeneration gatherings in a form of sports Bonanzas, workshops, debates and study tours will be organized under the theme of the project to provide an opportunity for both Program participants and host community members to understand connection between the environment and children development.
Accommodation: Participants are expected to be hosted in local host families within the community. Depending on the availability of the families, in some cases Participants will be sharing accommodation in community residential house. Clean water and electricity will be available. In that case living rooms will be shared with 3-5 Participants and available full time kitchen staff to manage meals preparation.
Language: The official language of this project is English and Kiswahili. However you do not need to be fluent.
Requirements: No special or particular expertise/skills required; however a potential Participant for this project should be the one who is open minded and independent, interested in children and environment, asking questions and sharing views.
Approximate Location: The project is located in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, in Vigoa, Temeke region, Tanzania
Notes: €250 Non-refundable participation fee to be paid on arrival day. The participation fee covers the cost of airport pickups on arrival, local transport to the project (one way), orientation on arrival, food and accommodation during the program. The fee also contributes to the running cost of program activities before, during and after the program. However the participation fee does not cover the cost of medical/health services, cost of relevant Visas or permits, airport drop off on departure date, pocket money, free/leisure activities and other personal expenses.
