International work camp for construction of classrooms and compound set up
Description: Sweet home is situated in Nansana and Wakiso with 200 children at both branches. It’s a daycare, nursery and junior school and also provides care to orphans and vulnerable children in and around Nansana Town Council including Wakiso Sub County. The vision of the school is to Nurture an all-round child in areas of physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development. Objectives: • To improve sanitation at Sweet Home schools. • To improve the classrooms environment for the pupils at Sweet Home School. • To promote family sanitation through physical clearing in the community. • To reduce orphans Vulnerability to preventable diseases.
Type of Work: • Planting beautiful flowering plants • Digging garbage disposal pits. • Construction of children’s Toilet. • Clearing bushes at the site and surrounding homes • Collecting bricks, sand and stones to the project site and surrounding homes. • Carry water using wheel barrows and Jerricans. • Mixing sands, aggregates and cement • Erecting walls and plastering
Accommodation: • Accommodation will be in simple rooms at the school. • Participants will be required to carry own mats and sleeping bags. • The campsite has simple bathrooms and pit latrines no showers • A simple cooking shelter (Kitchen) • Participants are requested to bring with them mosquito nets.

Approximate Location: Sala is one of the parishes in Wakiso Town Council, approximately 4 Kms, off Kampala –Hoima Road via Wakiso District Headquarters. It’s close to Kavumba Recreation Centre. The community is has various children’s home due to the high vulnerability levels amongst the households.
Notes: 250 € for international participants (this includes pick-up from the airport, food and accommodation during the stay in the camp and the on-arrival orientation). It also contributes to the running of the workcamp activities and UPA administration. Note: UPA doesn’t offer airport drop off after the workcamp but can help in identifying the service provider and the volunteer meets the costs ranging between 28-30 Euros. N.B. For smooth running of the workcamp, volunteers should arrive 1-2 days prior to the start of the workcamp.
